History of Gmedia Center
In the summer of 2010, the inspiration to establish a human rights and humanitarian organization focused on facilitating the interaction between global actors located in Geneva and journalists from developing countries began to emerge through the collaboration of Francesco Moschetta and Dean Marcinyshyn who had acquired experience on the subject while working among the various actors in Geneva and abroad. After many months of discussions and meetings a preliminary plan was formulated that would eventually lead to the creation of Gmedia Center in early 2011.
Early strategies included humanitarian affairs topics to be included among the mandate of the organization; however it was felt that the inclusion of multiple topics would lead to a less than adequate presentation. It was therefore resolved to concentrate solely on human rights issues broadening the coverage from following the UN Human Rights Council activities to include the Treaty Bodies.

The organization was named – Gmedia Center – ‘G’ for Geneva and Global.
February 2011
Website launched – Providing background and contact information.
March 2011
Support – permanent missions (PM), NGOs, and UN agencies such as PM Finland, Mandat International, WHO, OMCT, MSF, Canton de Geneve, among others pledged their support to Gmedia Center.
Survey – Sent out to over 300 journalists worldwide providing detailed feedback of their needs.
April 2011
Statutes of Association – On April 25, 2011, Gmedia Center signed as a non-profit association governed by the Swiss Civil Code. Its inaugural executive: President Francesco Moschetta, Treasuer Dean Marcinyshyn, and Secretary Arianna Calza Bini.
May 2011
UPR Workshop announced – Attracting nearly 500 members from more than 90 countries, subsequently cancelled due to a lack of funding.
Expert Journalists – Wanjohi Kabukuru (Kenya) and Eric Lemus (El Salvador) joined to oversee accountability and transparency and contribute to journalistic programming.

New Staff – A Web and New Media Officer and a Workshop Officer hired.
July 2011
Learning Centre Library – A collection of media and human rights material is assembled on the website.
New Office – Gmedia Center moves into a new office: 15, rue des Savoises, 1205 Geneva CH

First Newsletter – Monthly newsletters begin publishing.
September 2011
Partnership – Gmedia Center and OMCT sign a bilateral partnership agreement.

Partnership – Gmedia Center and Fundamedios sign a bilateral partnership agreement.
Conference Presentation – Gmedia Center presents at the 2nd International Conference on Public Diplomacy for Youth Volunteering.

Workshop – Announcement of “Media Empowerment on Human Rights” workshop to coincide with UPR XIII in May 2012.
Expert Journalist – Fabrice Boule is added as an expert journalist.

Workshop - Media Empowerment on Human Rights hosted by Gmedia in cooperation with Fundamedios and Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism during the May 2012 UPR session. A total number of 14 journalists attend the workshop and the UPR sessions: six from Tunisia, six from Ecuador, and two from Jordan. Funded by: UK Embassy in Ecuador, American Embassy in Tunisia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luxembourg, and Canton de Geneve.
